Food For Thought

Something for teachers to brighten up their day, and to make them wonder what they are doing with their lives.

Argument:
Well behaved teachers bring about antisocial behavior in teenagers.

Evidence:
1) Teachers hold positions of authority in most, if not all, government funded schools.
2) Teachers are bound by a code of conduct to behave and hold themselves in a proper and socially acceptable manner.
3) Most teenagers will go through a phase where they rebel against authority as part of puberty.
4) Due to this rebellious phase, they will rebel against the very image that teachers are sent to portray, and become socially unacceptable citizens - at least, for the period of time when they are under the influence of teachers.

Conclusion:
From here, we can conclude that well behaved teachers will result in teenagers that behave in unacceptable ways.

Future Work:
Future research can be pursued to determine if evil teachers can bring about morally upstanding teenagers, as they will rebel against antisocial behavior, and become socially acceptable people.

Before you challenge my theory, tell me why, even with all the codes of conduct and the good role models that teachers set themselves to be, we still have a significant percentage of teenagers that are nothing like good citizens?

Smoke in front of your kids. Do drugs, get drunk, plunder, fight and manipulate. Wear your bikini to class. Advocate porn, racism and discrimination. There may be a higher probability that they will grow up to be law abiding citizens. If not, hey, the current system doesn't work anyway.

Happy teacher's day in advance. I know it's a bit too early, but thanks to your undying, unwavering and unquestioned loyalty to the current system, you have already turned a significant number of teens into adults who are detrimental to society.

It's been a year ever since I've posted anything significant!
Ah, 2009.
Every year feels better than the last I've lived, and I say that every year.

Milestones!
Phibbie's arriving at the end of November / early December. Yay!

I landed a wonderful career as a software developer,
the dream path that I envisioned myself doing since 9 years ago,
only to leave it for another dream that will start in December.

BMW 325i, Nissan R34...
just because I can afford one,
doesn't mean that I have to get one,
but I have managed to reach my goal,
which is to be able to afford one,
and that's good enough for me. :D

Yes, I still miss Australia,
but I'm glad I didn't stay there,
because I have so much more here.

So, what did I accomplish this year?
I spent the entire year finding my identity,
positioning myself for career development,
establishing new networks and friends,
and trying to invest on personal development.
Oh! I also got a new PC that has two monitors. Fun!

What didn't I accomplish this year?
Re-integrate into the Singaporean culture as much as I would have liked,
and develop and nurture my social circles adequately.

That's it?
No.. I didn't manage to buy a PS3,
a video capture card for my PC,
and update my blog as often as I would have liked.

Haha..

Random Thought of the Moment?
16 degrees in Melbourne is considered cold to me,
even with my winter jacket on,
when I would have been dancing outside with nothing but a shirt on, only half a year ago.

1. I like flowers.
Before you get the wrong idea and start rushing off to buy me bouquets of flowers, I'd like to highlight that I like growing flowers. In gardens. Not the dead nor dying ones.

2. I have a thing with horror movies.
I'd rather pay to not watch movies that rely on sound, effects and scare tactics. Thriller movies that are play mind tricks and use their intricate storyline to frighten you amuse me, but they are few and far between. Oh! I really want to watch The Exorcist, even though I know that it's really scary.

3. Cats.
Their looks, attitude and existence: I don't know why, but they irritate me. But Ashley's an exception. Maybe he'll change my impression of cats, but I doubt it. Guess I'm more of a doggie person.

4. I use the mouse with my left hand...
but I click the left mouse button. I use the spoon using my left hand too, and the fork on my left if I'm using a knife, and sometimes, I interchange the spoon and fork halfway during a meal. Bad table manners, I know, but I only use the spoon with my right hand in special occasions. HAHA.

5. The Lord of the Rings.
The next time someone watches LOTR and goes, "Oh, but look at Frodo! He's such a poor thing! blablabla", I swear... no, just kidding. JUST GET ON WITH IT AND THROW THE STUPID RING INTO THE FIRE AND MOVE ON ALREADY!

6. I like cooking.
But only easy meals that I like. Like instant noodles with egg. *straight face*
Or pasta, steak, chicken, lamb, etc. Western food is much easier to prepare than chinese. The chinese probably had too much time on their hands.

7. I have a shopping list.
It's a big one that is constantly being updated within myself. But I don't act on it. Clothes. Shoes. PC. PS3. Bags. Accessories. Watch. Mobile phone. Decorations. Furniture. Car. House. You name it, it's on it. The sky's the limit.

8. I hold the handbrake when I drive.
Or I'll just rest it on my gearstick. It's an automatic. Not like I'm going to change gears or jam the handbrake while the car is moving. It's just there.

9. I like hospitals.
The environment, the cleanliness, the uniforms, the food. But I hate injections.

10. I can stay in bed all day.
Especially on bad days. All I need is my laptop and you won't see me get out of it.

11. When watching performances, I look at the background dancers more.
I don't really bother with the main performers. It's usually the supporting cast that are more interesting. Especially when they trip up. *evil laughter* nah.. that rarely happens. But the whole picture is generally better than just the foreground.

12. I'm a meat person.
Vegetables are generally there to add color and decoration to the setting on the plate. They're nice to look at, but can generally be ignored most of the time. Vegetables that are leafy or crunchy and green are pretty acceptable, but gooey or squishy veges like eggplants, ladyfingers and goodness-knows-what are untouchables. Yes. I'm 25 going on 26. But no means no.

13. Claypot rice and soupy noodles.
I like the taste of claypot rice and noodles in soup. However, they're normally pretty hot and I can't eat them fast, so I tend to not order them

14. I rarely listen to the lyrics of songs.
I usually just listen to the melody and absorb the 'feel' of the song before anything else, especially for Chinese, Cantonese or Japanese songs. If it appeals, I'll hunt for the lyrics, and chances are, my hunch about what the song is about is quite spot on.

15. I can't tell directions to save my life.
It'll take me a map and a few months to know a location, or how to get to a certain place. Even after that, I might still get lost. The GPS is my best friend. Tried and tested, countless times.

Ten Years

I know for a fact that,

Right now, I'm currently hooked onto FFXI (again!)

There's a mission that I'm on with 5 of my friends which involves fighting up a 100 storey tower, with HNMs (High Notorious Monsters) every 20 floors.

HNMs are bosses that are so difficult, players get a title when they defeat one of them outside the tower.

My party defeated this HNM (Behemoth) at level 20.
It was all right.

At Level 34 or so, we met this Notorious Monster (NM), which is not as difficult as a HNM, who happened to be a level boss (we had to defeat it to progress up).

It promptly casted Firaga III and instantly wiped out half our members and finished off another one, leaving two survivors to save the day. We almost failed the mission by seconds (there's a 30 minute time limit to clear 5 levels).

On the 40th floor, we'll probably be drinking coffee with the Adamantoise,

or sipping tea with Fafnir.

They're both HNMs.
Fafnir would be more fun but I don't really want to be wiped out.
I can't wait.

Equilibrium

One of my philosophies in life.

Treat others the way they treat you.
Communicate in the same manner as they do to you.
If someone is nice to you, reciprocate in a better manner.

If someone treats you in a less than desirable manner, return the favor in the same way.

For all you know, that "less than desirable" manner may seem to be perfectly fine to that person.
If it's not, he/she has no right to demand better treatment from you.

If I were to treat everyone well, including people with conflicting interests and mindsets, it would undermine the quality and importance and price of my "niceness".
Why would I treat my worst enemies in the way I treat my best friends?
For all you know, they wouldn't even know how to appreciate it.

Some people may criticize this method and say things like,
"Don't bring yourself down to their level"

I'm not.

It's a model where
I adopt to their system
their mentality, interests and mindsets,
and communicate with them
in a way that I perceive
is the best manner
that they want to be treated.

After all,
people treat others the way they want to be treated.

If they're nice to me,
I'll reciprocate in a stronger manner,
which will be returned in an exponential manner.

If they're opportunists,
that's their approach to life,
and they will be perfectly happy to interact with people
who treat them in the same manner.

Birds of the same feather flock together.

No one is evil.
We just have conflicting interests and mindsets.
What is evil to someone,
is perfectly normal to another.

I just tune myself to that person's frequency and communicate at that channel.
Or at least that's what I try to do.
